OAXACKING (getting around oaxaca )
Meet Omar!
Omar Alonso is the founder of Oaxacking, a project born from his love for Oaxaca, its food, its people, and its traditions.
Born and raised in Oaxaca, Omar spent ten years living and working in Los Angeles before returning home in 2008. Coming back gave him the opportunity to rediscover Oaxaca with a new perspective — exploring its markets, communities, food traditions, artisans, and mezcal producers.
What began organically as sharing these discoveries with others eventually became Oaxacking, a project Omar started developing around 2012 to create authentic, personal experiences for visitors.
Omar believes that the best way to experience Oaxaca is not simply to visit it, but to connect with the people who make it special. Oaxacking experiences are built around real places, local families, markets, food, mezcal, and the stories behind them. His approach has been featured by publications including Saveur, VICE, El Economista and others.
For Omar, Oaxacking is more than a tour — it’s an invitation to experience the Oaxaca he knows, loves, and calls home.
